My Mac mini desktop display is moving around (i.e., move mouse far left or right, up or down and the whole display moves). Also, it does not fit within the boundaries of the (Comaq MV740) monitor screen. It does not change when I change the magnification setting. In fact the setting goes awry when I change it (too large or too small). Help needed.

Sounds like the resolution in settings/display are set wrong. Try a different resolution (higher)

Sounds like you've turned on zoom in Universal Access.

Go into System Preferences, Universal Access and turn Zoom off.
