I need to replace the cd drive in an eMac as it is faulty.

Is it dangerous opening the eMac in order to do this (in respect to the CRT) ?

I have opened the imac g3 tray loaders and slot loaders countless times, but the CRT is seperately shielded away (my hands can't touch it)..

.....is it the same story with the eMac when you open it to change the cd drive?

Those eMacs last forever except the optical drives. Good job man, keeping the old beast alive, but replace the CD with DVD while you're at it.

Do this: Add a double-layer DVD burner to your eMac - Page 1 | Macworld
