The perils of iTunes celebrity playlists.

It's a distinct and painful memory shared by music lovers of a certain age. You spend a couple hours recording a wicked awesome mix tape for a friend, or a lover, or (most often) someone in the uncertain terrain between. You fill it with songs cunningly chosen to simultaneously bare your heart and play it cool. You nervously hand it over�"Yeah, no big deal, but I made you this." Two weeks later, you ask how much she loved it, and when she shrugs, you feel a hot flush of shame. Face it: Your mix tape sucks.

Now celebrities and musicians�from Beyonc� Knowles to Avril Lavigne to Sting�can feel that same hot flush of shame, on a much grander scale.

I love how this song was written with all the different examples Alanis uses of things being ironic.

That just brought a smile to my face. I didn't read the article, but the stuff each artist writes in their playlist is funny. And what was up with the Beyonc� playlist? Its all either her music, or music of those close to her (like former bandmates).

Yes, that's true. But I can still see if a woman is good-looking (or beautiful, or handsome, etc.), and Beyonc� is none of those, in my opinion. Nothing I can pinpoint - I do realise that if you were to take her apart, nearly every part would live up to a quite high standard of gorgeousness - but there's just something about her looks that rubs me the wrong way somehow...
