you know the application menu, with the little 4-holed draggable thing, so you can choose whether you want to show the icon and name or just the icon?

Well... what's the frikkin' point of it? It would be useful if you could just drag it to make it a bit smaller, and truncate the name, but it just snaps! So, why did apple make it draggable, when a simple toggle button would have sufficed?!?!?!

Is there any way of making it stay half-way?

try using combinations of the shift, command, and option keys while clicking the resize button.

I don't think he means the AppSwitcher, just the menu... hrm.
Thats just one of the little quirks I suppose...
