I have a Blue & White G3/450. When IBM or Moto ships a Ghtz G3 could I purchase one? Could I then pull out the 450Mhz chip and put the Ghtz chip in it's place? Will it work, or just blow up?

It could work, but you'd be pushing the processor:bus ratio.

AFAIK, B/W G3 can go up to 800MHz, according to this jumper setting.

I think you could go higher if you find the good settings.
The G3 processor is limited to a 10X CPU/bus ratio, so theoretically, you could throw a 1GHz G3 in a B/W.

You'd have to have very precise aim to throw a chip perfectly into place.....but more power to ya!

You most likely would need an upgrade, not just the processor, since it wouldn't be mounted on the ZIF daughterboard, it would just be the CPU.

I think it is doable, and I hope Sonnett or someone does it soon.

Now how would everyone feel if they came out with dual 1GHz G3 Processor upgrades for B&W G3 owners.
