A friend of mine is thinking about starting an online business. He has some product, and he would like to sell it online. He asked me about sites that do credit card transactions and such, but I have no clue, since I never had to use one. Does anyone have any idea which are the best solutions for sucha thing? He was talking about verisign, and that they have a $500.00/year deal, where he would get 10 websites, 2 emails, and could charge credit cards online. Anyone know of better deals?
Thank you,
t

Depending on his experience and technical savvy, he might want to consider getting a regular merchant account and setting up his site with a normal host. It would, of course, require more setup on his part (dealing with the ecommerce software), but he might be able to lower the cost down somewhat. He also might want to consider something like Yahoo! Stores, which are kind of cookie-cutter sites, but have some built-in traffic. If he's got a relatively unique product, it might be a viable option, though it could cost a little more.
Please note that I can't really speak from experience; these are just my impressions from what I've read.
