Would either of these variations on a Garageband theme be workable? And please don't kill me if it can't be done, I'm new at this. Thanks.

I think they both look great.

But the first one is particularly kick-@ss, and a very good compromise to get the wood texture into a theme. very nice.

Sure does look great, wouldn't work tho, aqua titlebars consists of an either tiled (carbon apps) or streched (cocoa) middlepattern with two endcaps. Would be really nice to be able to do that...

well... you can kind of do it. you have the cocoa and carbon backwards.

I'm working on a theme with a texture in the titlebar. I made the resource 300 pixels wide. It looks great on cocoa apps, but the pic does get streached in carbon apps. Here is an example. (oh please ignore the wrong text colors... this is a themepark preview, not a SS preview, so the text will be fixed in the final)

I really like the first one. Especially the progress bar! The title bar is really nice too. Would it not be possible to make a wood pattern that is similar to that? It might not look as nice, but it may work.

I hope you enter the first one in the macthemes.net contest!!!!!!!! It rules.

Progress bar is not doable though as far as i know. Only one color/pattern that repeats across. Custom fonts would only work if that's what you had your system set to too.

Actually, those were the two parts I was worried about: wood texture and color in the progress bar.

Wha, sorry, twister already covered that.

Metal gradient wouldn't work...8x8 px tiled pattern...(that's a pain)...gradient beneath the titlebar...also 8x8...(pessimistic )

Didn't see that. Twister must have been posting that at the same time I was typing up my response. I guess I could enter it into the contest (thanks for the positiveness of your comments) but it would seem that I let the cat out of the bag too early.

i'm pretty sure he would be disqualified since it is against the rules to submit something thats unoriginal, and since this is heavily based off of GarageBand i don't think it would be accepted :/

I have no problem with this being submitted. If Max had submitted Smoothstripes, I wouldn't have had an issue too. By original, I really mean ripping any small time artist's works, not necessarily interfaces by Microsoft or Apple. Is this ethical? I don't know, I've been getting hammered on my ethics for some time now But as far as I can see, Mac OS XP and Smoothstripes were never done with permission, so I'd say submitting this is ok.

Whoa phillryu, 17 entries and counting? I know this is off-subject, but that's pretty impressive. A lot more than I expected.

Yeah, if you have permission, that's fine.

And yup, the turnout so far is more than I had expected, and I'm expecting quite a few come this weekend, so the contest will definitely satisfy everyone I hope

both versions are do-able with a little trikery here and there.

by the way for those peeps not too familiar with garagebands interface and have not

used the app, these two mock-ups are more true to it's appearance than swiz's

rendition.

i'm gonna play around with the elements from the garageband app to see how well

they can be done.

i see a garageband theme with a melding of the two mock-ups.

i already have a version that i did up when garageband was first released.

The progress bar in the first one is way cool, but impossible to do, correct? (with the multiple colors)

yeah...but with a little artistic licence the colors can used to create something that

may remind you of that progress bar, but it would not look like it, no.

That looks awesome jimcpherson

Like I've mentionned before (and got flamed for it too), the GarageBand UI is horrible in my humble opinion. But the 1st screenie there, for some reason, is something I'd actually use...

Nice work!!!
