I'm surprised, maybe they cant find it like me, that nobodys posted the Big Beaver Road Highway exit sign.

KMARTs headquarters used to be there...a major international company whose address was 242 Big Beaver Road. Fabulous.

Oh yeah, exit #69 also.

The Chinese, apparently.

Actually, they only translated part of the sign (and badly)—it should be:

“No shouting! No loitering! No pissing and sh*tting!
IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN TO SH*T AND PISS HERE!!!”

(I don’t get the heading, though: “Unite nervous—solemnly vivacious”?!?)

The Apple Store in Troy, MI is on Big Beaver Rd. I bought a few computers there when it was the closest store to me.

Michigan also has cities with names like Climax and Paradise.

You also used to have to take I-69 to get to the only XXX-rated drive in movie theater in the state.

Yeah, I just never really understood that. When I worked for HUFFY we'd mail them stuff alll the time and every time I thought "How hard is it to get an F'in PO Box?"

Ahhh drive-ins. When I was in elementary school our skating parties were right next to a drive-in that showed only XXX movies. Parochial school kids spend a lot more time looking through the fence than they do skating.

My mom used to work in an office building a few blocks past the K-Mart headquarters. That building (K-Mart's, not my mom's) looked like a Danish-Modern castle; it was really interesting. And I never noticed it was exit 69-I was always too busy making sure I didn't get creamed while trying to exit!

The history about why 16 Mile Rd. is called "Big Beaver" is far less interesting than the reactions people have to the name.

Good advice, but I like how rather than showing the bad result, it freezes things the instant before the bad result.

Also, who dives with their palms up and arms forward?

I’m intrigued: what does a Danish-Modern castle look like?

This is what it looked like from the air in about 2002, but the surface treatment isn't readily apparent. This one probably gives you a better idea:

I can't really describe it except that it looks like it's made of uniform blocks (no, I'm not referring to Legos ), giving an appearance of clean lines and a very nice movement in its overall design. It reminds me of a castle, and of Danish Modern furniture, so I just combined the two terms.

That property is "a plumb" because of its size (44 acres or 17.8 hectares) and location.

Ahh, I thought you meant modern Danish castles (which, to my knowledge, does not exist). Gotcha.

And yes, that thing looks a lot like most building complexes built here in the seventies.

Never had a camera to take a picture of it, but there was a sign in Gainesville that warned "no right turn when train is present" on a road that was parallel to the RR tracks, with the RR tracks on the right side (meaning that if you were turning right when the train was there, you'd drive into the train). Always wondered if some moron actually turned into a train or if they sign was just preventative.
