According to this page Apple says the the new PowerMacs can support 720GB (4x180GB internal drives). The previous MDD supported 480GB (4x120GB internal drives). In fact, the graphic at the top of the page still shows this (hold your mouse over #2). So the question is what did Apple change to allow large drive support (over 137GB) on the ATA100 & ATA66 buses? And is this something that the orginal MDDs can be upgraded to do?

It's the availability of the 180gb hard drive. The maximum of 480gb was based on 4 120gb hard drives.
