I've never heard of this problem but I've been having it.
While using my macbook pro lately sometime the backlight randomly turns off. It's bright enough in my room to see that there is still stuff on the screen but the brightness buttons don't change anything and I can't get it back unless I shut it down with the power button.

This is really annoying. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I've had this happen on my old Titanium PowerBook G4. Assumed it was wiring or the backlight that was wearing out, but I don't know what the specific cause is or how to fix it.
