No particular point here. Just thought it would be good to have a general thread discussing events at the RNC over the next 4 days. We did the same for the DNC and it seemed to cut down on the number of redundant threads.

here's tonight's schedule of major speakers:

Senator Lindsey Graham (SC)

Senator John McCain (AZ)

Rudy Giuliani

Really looking forward to hear McCain and Giuliani. I'm curious to see how strident they are in their support for Bush. Or if they take a more circumspect route and just trumpet republican values. Also, these are 2 guys who could be primary opponents in 2008 if Bush loses this election.

and for all those who think there are only Democratic celebrities:

Ron Silver-Actor

Jason Sehorn and Angie Harmon

Speaking of celebrities, what about the governator ?

And if you don't have cable, I don't believe you'll see the speeches tonight on network tv.

An FYI to you all: if you want to see these guys speak, you're going to have to watch a cable news channel or CSPAN. The networks are blacking it out tonight.

PBS has coverage as well. IIRC, PBS and CSPAN broadcast without commentary whereas on Cable you have to put up with the talking heads interrupting.

Some vile filmmaker/propagandist who was at the convention happened to get booed pretty badly. That part was pretty funny.

Oh, definitely. I didn't catch 100% of McCain's speech, but Guilliani's was very good.

Why should they ? You obviously don't get it. Kerry is toast.

No I don't know that, and neither do you. That's not even an issue, so why even mention it. Kerry is the dude who is "reporting for duty", and claiming to be some warhero, wartime president, when he in reality is an anti-war protesting, anti-money for troops and anti-intelligence funds, most liberal senator in the senate, flip-flopping rich boy, who wants to suck up to cowardly European countries that believe appeasement of barbarians and terrorists is a good thing.

I can't wait to see a debate between the two. I'd be afraid if I were Kerry. He has taken every side to some issues, so it might be hard for him to follow which position he currently holds.

And one more thing: Isn't it funny that Kerry chose to make his mere 4 months in Vietnam, the cornerstone of his whole campaign ? Why not talk about the almost 2 decades the dude has been in the Senate ? Why not talk about all the accomplishments the dude has made as a senator ?

He obviously has none to mention.

Bad news for the Dems. Bush is leading going in to the convention. His numbers will no doubt go higher afterwards.

Outside of another terrorist attack (come on you bleeding hearts know you want one) we've probably got a land slide on our hands.

Thanks for the chuckles Senator Kerry.

Rudy and McCain what a way to start off the convention. Amazing Speeches by both. Just amazing.

Ron Silver was outstanding, too. I've got to find an mp3 or transcript of it.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

Good speeches by McCain and Giuliani. If I didn't know anything more about Dubya, I would've said "Yeah, sounds reasonable!"

Tonight we hear from a serial groper who's gotten rich making ultra-violent movies in Hollywood. I'm glad to see the Republicans taking such strong cues from the Democrats! (actually, I think Ahnold would take the pahty in a better direction, but right now he's just window dressing).

Wait, aren't McCain, Giuliani, and Schwarzenegger pushing 'divisive leftist social agendas?' How could they possibly do a good job?

Lastnight was great as well. Is it me or does when Laura Bush speaks it makes Teresa Heinz sound like a crazy woman?

If the election was based on first ladies or potential first ladies Bush would win in a landslide.

Yeah. Best first lady speech I've ever heard. She made some excellent points using very excellent imagery.

The Governator had an awesome speech too, though it was general enough that the it could have been given in support of either party or even a third party. Very patriotic, very strong and well delivered speech.

The Bush twins...well, I don't think they did much to help. I think they tried too hard to imitate the style and feel of the Kerry girls. It didn't work. They came off (to me) as overly giggly and not very bright. Barbara has potential, but Jenna needs to not dabble in politics.

Unfortunately, I missed McCain and Guiliani. I will, sadly, miss tonight's evens as well. (Damn this "beginning of the academic year" pomp!)
