That's called a kernel panic - Unix-speak for "computer crash". You only ever see it if a driver is badly written, or if hardware is broken.

If you've never seen it before, chances are 1000:1 that your freshly-bought RAM is defective.

Did you take extra-special care and pay attention to all the grounding precautions when installing the RAM?

Run the Apple Hardware Test on your MacBook Install Disk 1 (restart with the disk inserted and hold down the "D" key). Run the extended test. It will tell you if the RAM is bad.

Not necessarily.

The Apple Hardware Test is a "positive" test. If it finds something, something's definitely ****ed.

If it doesn't find anything, that doesn't mean everything's alright.

If you find your machine in ANY WAY erratic now that you've upgraded the RAM - weird voodoo bits, applications randomly crashing, iPods suddenly no longer working, or that kernel panic (which, again, you should NEVER see unless something is broken or a driver/haxie/kernel extension is badly written), then switch back to the original RAM configuration and see if the problems go away.

i got the error one time, and that has been it. so far so good since then.

it doesnt seem like its running that much faster with the 2gb though. some things are quicker but some arent

ive had the machine for almost a year and thats my 3rd kernal panic. i failed to record the other ones, but i did submit them to apple, but that doesnt mean much.

what else can i do?

Keep watching it for weirdness. Note any odd things you've been doing just prior to the panic.

Three in a year is okay, though, so don't worry about it. I haven't seen a single one since November, but we do different things.
