I'll be 37 in July. The first mac that I owned was the IIc. I bought it sometime around '84. I wasted a lot of time playing wizardry back then.

38 on the 22nd. Used Apples in 1983. Didn't touch them again till 1990. I did user support for Windows 2.11 in1989 and was so exasperated with Windows that I almost had a heart attack discovering how amazing Macs were in 1990. everybosy loved Macs back then and only true masochists would use some of the incredibly expensive and impossible to use DOS based professional graphics software (The first 32bit colour paint software for the PC called "Tips" from AT&T cost around $7000 and needed a special graphics card to run) I think Apple f�cked up royally back then in not exploiting the advantages they had over PC's. PC owners were always bitching about how much things cost (same as today) and had brown stuff in their trousers when OS/2 came out and needed 4MB of RAM to run. It is really ironic because OS/2 was a brilliant OS and extremely stable, but MS screwed everyone and brought out Win3.0 and the rest is history.

I've used Apples since I was 9, when my Uncle bought me an Apple IIc (NOT a Mac)... then I owned a IIgs, which I used until 1996 when I bought a 7600 (though my mother bought a Performa 450 in 1993), and now I use a Lombard Powerbook G3 and a QuickSilver G4 867

I have been playing with the idea of buying an iMac to substitute my home PC as I can now install Office X and transfer files back and forth between my office PC and my home Mac - hopefully this summer...

Anybody use/remember the Control Data computers using the PLATO educational software (12" floppies)--these huge, green CRT, behemoths? I'll see if I can find a pic of one.

Move over, KarlG � I'm 60. About 2 months older than I was last time this topic was posted.

First computer was a TI (16? 100?) bought for the kids for Xmas in the late 80's. Never got around to Macs until the Duo concept caught my fancy and I found a good deal on a used Duo 230. Enjoyed the form factor, but it suffered from comparison to my colour PC laptop. But then the G3 PowerBooks came along, and I dropped the line I'd been using about "not really considering myself a Mac addict".

P.S. I think there's a sailboarding MacNN'er around who's got 3 or 4 years seniority on me.

First Mac I ever used was a Mac Plus complete with a Rodime 20Mb HDD, September 1987 (about a month after I started Secondary School).

25, I was just going to say that and make this the shortest post I've ever written, but then I thought about it again and I decided not to, funny that. Hey, I'm sober too, I usually only spout this much gibberish when I'm drunk, but it's been one of those days today, y'know. Well while I'm here I may as well carry on, I didn't think there were so many mid twenties people in here, and the teens aswell. If I keep going on like this it'll end up as one of my longest posts (maybe) but I think I'll stop now.

33 here. Wow, anyone here remember the floppy. No, not the little floppy, the manly 5 1/4 inch floppy. Heck, back in my day when I was taking Cobol on a B-92 mainframe (in H.S.) we had 8 inch floppies...

I had to walk to school, uphill, both ways... 300 baud modems and 8 Mhz computers, ahh those were the days!

I'm really not that old, am I?

edit: Forgot to add that my 1st Mac was a 512Ke, bought in late 1986. I still own it, and my kids' friends still use it for games that just won't run on OS 9 or X.

Man, I wrote my first programm ever on a TI58 Calculator in 1978. I wrote my first programme on a real computer on *Punch Cards* for an IBM360 mainframe in 1982. I still remember all those wird home computers that were around in the 80's: the ZX-81's, the Vic-20's, the bbc micro's, the TI-99's etc. And all of those computers had casette tapes as storage. Christ, I feel old...

Well you may feel old and I may only have been a kid back in the 80's, but I sure felt I was getting old waiting for the games to load off cassettes on my ZX Spectrum and 64.

Recently turned 22. Mac user since 1992 (never had a comp before that), when I played with a Mac and was instantly hooked. That resulted in the acquisition of a used SE .

Today I had the joy of setting up a new Quicksilver in a household where the three boys were 2, 4, and like 7 or something. To think the first computer that they ever saw was a Power Mac 7500, and that the one they'll remember is a G4 with OS X!
