I have a 60 GB 4G ipod and just got a Canon PowerShot SD450 camera as a gift.

I know there are several products that can transfer pictures from the Camera to the iPod for temporary on the go storage. I was wondering what is the best/most cost effective one to get

Thanks,
- karen

Apple makes an iPod camera adapter. Works nicely.

Check for compatability first. Apple's Camera Connector doesn't work with my Canon PowerShot S50.

Any newer camera with PictBridge support probably uses the right protocols to connect via Apple's camera connector. I use it with my Nikon D-50 quite regularly (but it didn't work with my older Olympus C3000, which uses a more obscure protocol).

A slightly less elegant approach would be to get an iPod flash card reader (I think either Belkin or Griffin makes one) and pop out your card whenever you need to do a transfer.

Are you anywhere near an Apple Store? The guys at the new one near me said I could bring my camera in and try it out if I wanted. Since its right by work, I just bought one and was going to bring it back if it didn't work. It works great for me though (Sony Cybershot DSC-P10).

Jake, did you do anything special to get your camera connector to work? I have a Sony DSC-P10 and a 30 gig Video Ipod with 1.1 software version. I connected my Sony, and the import looked like it worked like a charm. However, when I try to view the pix I get nothing and it won't re-import. It looks like it wiped out the dozen or so existing pictures I already had loaded on the iPod via my computer. Any thoughts?

Where are you trying to view them? On your computer? You can't view them on the iPod until you import them to iPhoto, and back to the iPod.

Is this file transfer from camera/memory-card to iPod possible on a non-photo iPod (i.e. 4G 40gig iPod)?

This is a fantastic feature. When I travel I'd much rather pack an iPod than a laptop...

Regards,

Tom P.

I don't think so...per the Apple Store, "Compatible with iPod with color display (software v1.1 or later) and iPod with video only."

Belkin used to make a products to allow this, but they was in the $80 range. You can find them on eBay. Look for:
- Belkin Digital Camera Media Reader for iPod
- Belkin Digital Camera Link for iPod

Good luck!
