I'm looking for a Yahoo style messaging app, but one that doesn't require Internet connectivity. I am installing a bunch of iMacs in a doctors office, and they would like a "pager like" system on the computers, to send quick messages back and forth.

Preferably something that is free, or inexpensive.

Thanks,

Mike

I am not sure if Excite Messenger will work away from the internet, but that is the messenger I would recommend. There was a chooser extension created about 10 years ago that lets you send messages over an Appletalk network but I cannont remember the name. I will post it on my iDisk later on and put the link here so you can download iAnother option would be to search www.versiontracker.com for a messenger.

Try Hotline, it's fantastic on an Intranet/Lan environment.

You can:

- send private messages to each person
- or send messages to a common message window
- you can have a "news room" for news you want everyone to see (eg newsletter, pricing list, announcements etc)
- and it's all damned easy to set up.

- Each person can choose their own icon/picture
- Others can see when messages can't be sent to that person (eg in a meeting all afternoon)
- auto-reply can be set up
- filesharing is a breeze via Apple directory style layout
- each user can have their own file folder

The free version is the best version, I think the Hotline business model has recently changed to a buy-only one, check out: http://www2.bigredh.com/hotline3/support/support.html

Version Tracker has it listed at: http://www.versiontracker.com/morein...id=2005&db=mac

Good luck, works for us!

John.
