I just updated to safari 3.2 and removed a few extensions (glims and safari block) right after. Safari quits unexpectedly ever few minutes now, especially when opening a new window. I don't think the extensions caused this (they shouldn't have right?).

How can I roll back to 3.1 or fix these issues? And yes I have repaired permissions and restarted multiple times as well as deleting the safari prefs.plist.

Forgot to mention I am on a core duo macbook pro with 10.4.11, and I currently have no extensions or anything (other than flash) on safari.

As I said the only thing "extra" is flash, nothing else at all. I haven't had a crash in about 30 minutes which is somewhat confidence inspiring.

Hi, I've got the same problem here:

Installed update to safari 3.2
tried to open
failed, said glims might be problem
removed glims
safari opened, crashed after 1st google search
keeps crashing, about 3 times
then asked me to "reset settings"
did that
still crashing
am still running 1password.. not sure if I want to remove that...

any ideas... this smells like an apple/safari problem...

I had pithelmet also installed.
This was the problem.
Safari 3.2 works fine now with glims and 1password installed.
Unfortunately, pithelmet is gone for now.

I wasn't using either of them. I had pithhelmet, and it seems as though things improved after removing that (it still crashed a few times afterwards, but seems to be a lot better).

It's crashing regularly for me, and I don't have pithelmet installed. I'm using safariblock and acidsearch, so it's presumably one of those - looks like there's a more general problem with plugins in this version.

Getting rid of acidsearch seems to have solved the crashing problem.

I updated as well, and it seems to have been Pith Helmet that caused my frequent crashes. Hopefully, that's it, as it was really annoying.

The general problem is that you are all using unsupported hacks that cause Safari to have problems every time you update it. To save yourself from this and future headaches, stop using Safari (until such a time it has an API for plug-ins, if that ever happens) and either get Firefox and the equivalent extensions, or get a more capable WebKit based browser like OmniWeb or iCab which have those features built-in, or use Opera.

I am using both Safari Block and Acidsearch with version 3.2, and I am not having problems. I doubt if those are the cause of the crashing. I am using SafariStand as well.

I am getting an error message saying there is a more updated version of Safari on the hard drive. I deleted the old version and tried to reinstall and get the same error message. Now I have to reinstall from the Leopard OS disk. Any ideas?

I'd rather not use any of those browsers because they don't add any functionality that I would use and I don't find them visually appealing. I'll just wait for an updated version of pithhelmet to come out.

The only add-on = Inquisitor; yet constant spinning beach balls of death and frozen Mac mini CD 1.83GHz + 2GB of RAM (work computer).

Am sorry I installed. Have held off on this MacBook, and probably will for a while yet 'til an update or some sort of fix.

Or just use GlimmerBlocker (http://gimmerblocker.org) which blocks ads without being a hack into Safari and therefore doesn't crash Safari when it's updated.

GlimmerBlocker is a private http proxy so it doesn't have all the drawbacks of the InputManager hacks. No instability, no restriction on upgrading Safari (or OSX).

It even allows you to modify web pages. An included filter inserts a 'download' link on YouTube pages.

Can anybody help me *REMOVE* SafariBlock ?
I know it's not yet been indicted, but I'd like to be cautious before upgrading Safari.
I've had mine *disable* for a while, and when I ENable it the "Remove" button becomes available...
but clicking "Remove" just turns it back to "Disabled".

What a nuisance. I HATE software that will not be nice about being deleted.

Can anybody ***HELP*** guide me through the deletion?

Safari (3.2 on my wife's PB G4 running 10.4.11) began quitting (not really crashing... no crash reporter) soon after installing the update. I tried disabling the "Warn when trying to visit fraudulent web sites" under the pref's security tab, but that had no effect.

The only plugin she had running was PithHelmet 2.8.3a. I first tried disabling it, but no help... had to remove the SIMBL folder in /Library/InputManagers, restarted Safari, and no problems.

I then installed SafariBlock 2.2r1 which does a credible job of blocking ads, not necessarily better or worse than PithHelmet, but it works fine without causing a crash.
