First on the Duall 500 "test machine"
Move all data to the 120gb (internal).
Wipe the 40gb (also internal) and install.

Play around with Panther (mostly app compatability).

Then to the 17" powerbook:
Move all data to the Dual 500.
Wipe the HD and install.
Dual 500 G4 :: 576mb :: 180gb (120+40+20)
17" PB G4 1.33 gHz :: 1gb :: 80 gb @ 5400rpm

when you archive what happens?

I think that's an option when you install...

does it put all the application suport files back into the new install?

I will do a clean install on a separate disk partition .. I already have Users and Applications on some other partitions.. in this way I can flip back to 10.2.8 if I have any problem..

it saves the contents of your users account and you get a "previous systems" folder with your jag library, replaced apps (ical, ichat, mail....) and the jag system folder. this takes up about 2gb.

this is what i did, no problems/crashes to date. had panther running for a week and a half now.

E. None of the above. I first plan to install it on a Firewire drive for testing purposes.

all this talk about testing out the panther first on some firewire drive before installing it for real... makes a bit nervous

don't we believe it should work fine... now that apple packaged it up all up so fancy and introduced it at once worldwide...

or am i just being naive again?

Going to to an upgrade and to an app check. After wards I will do a wipe and install. Dont want to waste a lot of time installing apps that may be problematic or dosfunctional.
