Hi. I have a mac book pro with glossy screen that freezes on the gray apple with the spinny icon at startup and just spins and spins and spins and spins and spins and spins etc. I've tried to zap the PRAM, start up in safe mode, start up with the Utility CD, start up with option key held down (which gives me the option of selecting the hard drive, after which it goes to the spinny spin spin again). Please help. I'm visiting in Seattle and there are so many Microsoft nerds here. Thanks so much!

Have you tried booting in verbose mode to see where it hangs (cmd-v on bootup)? Have you tried the built-in hardware self-test to see (D on bootup)? Have you tried resetting the SMC (a longshot, but...)?

I had this problem. I reset the PRAM, reset the PMU and pulled the battery and left it out for 10 minutes and everything worked fine. You have to reset some settings after doing a a PMU reset. Give it a shot.
