I think SparkME will handle this. It's a great freeware sound editing app...
Except apparently you can't get it anymore. Damn. What's up with that? VersionTracker and Apple both have links to non-existent pages for this app. That's a real drag. It was a great app.

Well there is part of a few mp3's I want to put on my Treo 600, but I don't want to use the whole mp3, just part of it.

Well you can just set the start time and end time in iTunes and then convert the file to mp3 - the resulting file will contain only the part you selected to be played. Okay you might lose a bit of quality in the reconversion - so if it's something off CD, you could just convert it to AIFF to start with and follow the same procedure.

For future reference, in iTunes: select track, press cmd-i for info, select options tab, set start time and end time, press ok, select convert selection to mp3 from advanced menu.

Yes, but that means reenconding an already encoded music file and will lead to quality loss. So this function is no match for a proper editing app.

Yes but even a proper editing app will need to convert the original mp3 to uncompressed audio, and then reencode to mp3 after all the editing is done.
The only option for lossless editing is to work on the original uncompressed source.

Pre-emptive post before someone says that QT Pro only saves .movs...
If you edit an MP3 in QT Pro and save as self-contained you can then delete the Quicktime header with a data editor (like HexEdit) and have a "clean" MP3 file.
