I usually don't much care about Mercedes (always been a Bimmer fan), but this new CL is frikkin beautiful!

Even the CLS has similar lines, but this is just stunning.
linkage

p.s. Does anyone know the designers for Mercedes (past/present)?

p.p.s i'm actually finally "addicted to MacNN"! woohoo!

The front looks like it's crashed into a wall already, other than that:

Stunning. Much nicer than the old CLS. Hopefully such blasphemy will be pardoned, but it looks like it has a twinge of British style with the back end that slopes slightly downward. (I know it has had a down slope on its back end before, but this just seems a tad different.)

It looks nice apart from the back end, there's something weird about the back bumper and lights to me. Oh and this doesn't replace the CLS, this is the CL (basically an S-Class coupe). The CLS is more like the size of an E-Class.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Dr. Peter Pfeiffer is the man in front of all things design inside Mercedes-Benz.

IMO the CLS is still the most beautiful car in the road today, easily 7 years ahead of any other car design.

Don't like the headlights... ...they look to be a weird bubble shape and I'm not too fond of "flying" headlights (i.e. finishes to a point on the trailing edge, like the side of Thor's helmet). And don't like the rear lights and bumper combo - just something wrong about it, like it's too bulky or too art deco or something.

Aside from that, sweet.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

Oops. My mistake.

If this is the current CL-Class' replacement, it's a bit of a pity as I really enjoy the backlights on the current CL-Class. They seemed to have been a modern take on the rear lights of the older Mercedes of the 80s. Having said that, this new one has a much nicer overall design even though I've always been a sucker for the separated circular headlights of the E-Class and the CL-Class.

it isn't working for me either. it's kinda "chrystler-ish". I think the VW group (Audi) is producing the best designs from Europe.

Looks alright, too much like a lexus for me though. Not that there is anything wrong with that just think it should be more original.

Meh. Kinda odd looking to me. Not very Mercedes like, whatever that is. Looks like the evil love child of a Lexus and a Jaguar.

In fact, it's usually Lexus that's trying to keep up with German car designs, esp. Mercedes.

I thought that that it looked like a cross between a new Mustang and a jag to be honest.

If I could buy any car right now it would probably be an is350 from lexus. That car is hot.

It has a little bit of Bentleyness viewing from behind. If i were 20 years older this could be of my wheels of choice. The lines are subtle, but the overall underlying is powerful and assurance. I expect to see loads of this around town.

Yeah right. Lexus has never tried to look like German cars. Toyota paves their own roads, and it's very plain to see that the Merc mentioned here has asian auto styling all over it. Toyota hardly needs to look to German auto makers for styling tips. It's the other way around these days.

2.21 million jobs were LOST after 2 years of Bush Tax Cuts.

actually, if you look carefully, you can see some of the design philosophy trickling down from the maybach (www.maybachusa.com) > S-Class Sedan > CLS.

i dig it. very nice car. i'm a mercedes fan, and i hope they've been working on improving their quality control.

Exactly. Especially the rear bumper. The new S is also pretty nice, except the tail lights, those are a little funky. CLS is again beautiful, and now this CL. If this is the direction MB is headed, then I might have to give one of these a shot.

But really, do they even compare to the fun that a 3 series for example, is to drive?
