I filled up the tank this afternoon, for an amazing $2.25/gal.

I am not sure what the reason is. Obsene/unfair earnings for the oil cartel? Overstock of fuel in private reservoirs? Low demand? A ploy to kill hybrid car sales?

When do you think gas (87 octane) will hit $1.99/gal?

Ohio Valley. Cost of living is dirt cheap.

You can get a decent place to live for less than $600 a month. Plus low crime.

I filled up the other day @ $2.13, in metro Detroit, although that station is almost always $.10/gallon cheaper than anybody. Besides, this is just a temporary respite. It will go back up before summer travel season, and in the not too distant future it will start going up more, and will stay higher.

And it's still above $2.00/gallon here, so what's your point? We are running out of cheap oil. As I've said before, there's lot of oil left, but the cheap, easy to extract stuff is getting scarcer. The earth isn't some humungous bathtub that we can just dip our greedy little ladles in and drink what we want, indefinitely.

I filled up for $1.99 yesterday here in St. Louis Missouri.

Sometimes it pays to live in the midwest. Sometimes.

Karl what I am saying is, by that time we may not be dependant on it.

You need to learn to word things as a possibility or idea, and not a definite fact. Esp when the future is unknown.

We're down to $2.05 in Salt Lake City. It's been falling almost daily around here. It's been great.

the national average is still higher than 2. Besides this isn't really natural considering the government has released tons of fuel from reserves during a time of year when fuel costs always go down anyway. When summer comes people will drive more... and our reserves will need to be replenished for the next emergency.

Isn't it annoying how some students are always worrying about the world? As a uni student myself, there is nothing I hate worse than going to a pub and then listening to some tool talk about American hypocrisy and imperialism and Saudi Arabia. Got any more cliches in that bag?

ahah yeah it's better to ignore truth about neoconservatism.
notice how noone refuted me yet.

My question is simple: why do the US, who are committed to worldwide democracy and freedom, support a theocracy in Saudi Arabia and many dictatorships in ancient soviet countries?

Why did they support in the past hussein, pinochet, dictatorship in the philipines, the mujahideens from alquaeda, etc????

I try to look at the price of gasoline and the whole cheap gas (BAD!) thing as a whole series of interconnected industries, market factors, natural resource availabilities and political & economic imperatives being managed to affect the pump price.

The demand for BIG cars has gone to ZERO and so Detroit NEEDS to get rid of gas guzzlers in order to have the $$ and the time needed to gear up waaay up to produce more fuel efficient vehicles. The only way we can help detroit, and you must remember that what's good for GM is good for America, stay in business and NOT put thousands out of work is to restore confidence or the belief (false though it may be) that we'll be able to afford to keep those gas guzzlers fueled. A few weeks in a row of cheap gas will have most Americans forgetting ALL about the oil problem. Until an act of God or man forces us to look at the problem AGAIN. And AGAIN we'll lament the hassles. And then some rabbit will be pulled from a hat and we'll dodge the bullet AGAIN.

But we'll be in an even WORSE state than we were this past summer, because the oil reserves will have been depleted by however many billions of barrels and then, one day there will be no more rabbits.

And we'll understand how much we blew it along the way when we could have been doing more.

No. This is probably a necessary artificially low price to keep Americans warm this winter and to help Detroit and the economy.

Those of you who want to take a look at a Michael Moore film to get an idea of the future that could POSSIBLY spread across the country wherever vehicle mfg plants exist, try "Roger & Me."

Ambush is just your atypical new college student, that thinks he has been opened to this new found truth...

When every year for decades freshmen have been doing the same thing.

When I was a freshman, I too was the same way.

The end of cheap oil is already here. We're spending billions per week in Iraq, which was supposed to insure us a future supply from the ME, but instead has created more enemies for us. When will people learn that they're financing the terrorism around the world by sending their oil dollars to the ME? It's all related, my friend.

Ambush, no one is arguing with you because it's inane, and never goes anywhere.

No matter how badly you are proved wrong, you are oblivious to it.

I have been starting a trend to either stop short, and not even start discussing anything with people like this.

And stop being pretentious. You are still a kid.

Heck, so am I for that matter.

That isn't what I said Ambush. You being 18 has nothing to do with no one going to argue with you.

I said your know it all attitude was pretentious because you ARE just 18.

We aren't going to get into it with you for the reasons I posted in the post before this one.

And it's true. No matter what is said, you are going to believe what you believe regardless, and it will just turn into some lame-ass PL flame feast.

If you REALLY want to get into this argument. take it where it belongs.

For the 4th time.

$2.02 in Saginaw, MI this evening.

It's been dropping about 12-15 cents a week for a while. I predict $1.75 sometime in January.

Huh?!?

Are you trying to bait me like you are going after Kevin right now?

If, on the rare case you aren't, here's my reply:
No. You infer too much. Gas prices rise and fall dramatically over long periods of time. You're pretty young and probably have no idea of this, but in the late 80's and early 90's prices rose quickly and then dropped quickly. And for a while, prices went to near 70's levels.

I predict prices will drop to about $1.55 around early Spring '06 and then rise again for the '06 Summer season to an average around $2.00
