will i be able to use the usb ports in the back of the apple wired keyboard if i use the keyboard via a usb hub?

I don't see why not, but remember that they are not powered ports. A USB flash drive might work but a bus powered zip drive sure won't.

Correct. Except you will find some higher capacity flash drives won't work either. I found my 32mb drive works on a keyboard port, but not my 128mb one...

Hmm thats good to know (my drives are both very old 16mb ones). Did you have anything else plugged into the other port when you tried the 128mb drive? Was it there when you tried the first drive?

well the 2 usb ports in the keybaord will be used for a powermate and a usb light

I am using my apple KB with a USB light and the standard apple optical mouse with no problems plugged into a usb hub (with 3 other devices plugged in).
