Original Fiesta, which everyone liked:
"American-ized" version.
I can just hear the board meeting:
Business major 1: "So everyone digs the Fiesta! Let's bring it to the USA!
Business major 2: "Okay! Hey but let's change it around first!"
Business major 1: "Why?"
Business major 2: "I just saw this seminar about VBL and dynamic design, and I want to change it."
Engineer: "The tooling is already done. It will cost us an additional $2 million to change it"
Business major 1: "Look, I heard my boss said he liked it, but he also likes this other car, so let's integrate it or I'm blaming you for poor sales"
Business major 2: "Hey let's get rid of those foglights. Nobody uses extra lights on their cars."
Business major 1: "Sweet can we replace them with fake vents that don't do anything? More vents = sporty, right?"
Business major 2: "Oh hell yeah! And check this out, let's make them CHROME! YEAAAHHH NIGGA!!!!
>high fives<
Business major 1: "Oh and my grandma said that lower grill opening is too aggressive"
Business major 2: "Good point let's make it look less aggressive and more boring so we don't offend anybody!"

All of that just to integrate the triple-bar chrome grill...

I don't know why you complain. The "American-ized" captures the spirit of Amaraca perfectly: it's fat, bulgy, and cheap looking. Isn't that what made the Failed 3 successful ?

Does anyone know why headlights have to extend to the a-pillar these days? Are the designers all sheep copying each other or is there some obscure regulation in a shared target market doing it?

They make them bigger because people like cars with personality. Also, they wrap around the sides, so they can incorporate a side reflector/turn signal light. Personally I think it looks more dynamic than just having some lights on the "front" and metal on the sides to help break it up with another material.

But why do they assume that everyone wants the personality to be "ghey"?

The Mk 2 with it's softened and much blander looks was far less popular, but, yes, I'd say the Mk 1 was loved.

In 1990 I owned a 1979 Fiesta. Dark red. I drove it like I stole it, and the only thing I ever broke was a bracket that held the manual stick shift to the transmission. And that only happened after I drove it into a ditch and flipped it. I didn't dent the hood or roof or any other damage than that bracket. Oh, and a gasket between the exhaust manifold the the down pipe wore out that cost about $20.

for years, car designers of Peugeot have tried to make the head-and taillights meet but they failed too.

Well, I just reserved mine. It's the top-line SES hatch with the "Upgrade" package, SYNC, leather, etc. In Red Candy Metallic with Cashmere interior. Totally stoked. I'm wondering how this whole reservation thing will work tho. There isn't a downpayment or anything involved, just have to contact a dealer by May 3rd. I think I'll go to the Ford place tomorrow and see if they can clarify. Also a lot of the options were not available online such as moonroof and SFE package.

> are using two different stylings of the car in their articles today (where the front grill is different)
The hatch and the sedan have different stylings including the front grille. IMO the sedan looks like a Kia refuguee, and I don't like it. The hatchback looks far better, and a hatch is more practical too.

Awesome, but why not get a Focus SVT? Better car, less money. Same body style. I like the Fiesta... but I woudn't spend 15 grand on it.

Are you aware that we DID get the Focus SVT here? There is not new Focus SVT, perhaps you're thinking of ST? He was referring to used.
I've looked at Focus SVTs a lot, but haven't been able to find one that doesn't look like it's been flogged its whole life.

Really? I thought we only had the STs.
Must admit, I haven't really been paying that much attention. Fords aren't really my cup of tea.

Oh, well I forget, there was a ST trim in the US, but it wasn't like the European Focus. Here it was just a body kit for the sedan.

Ford Fiesta custom builder is also now live here: 2011 Ford Fiesta | Official Site of the Ford Fiesta | FordVehicles.com
ive customized a few and am getting excited again about this car (the manual hatch of course). every time though i have to remove those chrome inserts on the front LED lights. just not my style and i think makes the car look 100 X better w/o them.
Also, looks like the release date has been pushed back to summer 2010.
