I really like to listen to techno when I code (yeah yeah, cliched to hell and all that), particularly hardcore and it's variants (though not so much happy hardcore, I much prefer deathcore). I don't know about particular songs though, and I'm not sure it'd matter that much. I just like to have the beat and the and the high-tempo background music and don't particularly pay attention to the actual song.

"I love my computer" by Bad Religion
lyrics(found em, looking for the band name, so figure why not?):

I love my computer
you make me feel alright
every waking hour
and every lonely night
I love my computer
for all you give to me
predictable errors and no identity
and it's never been quite so easy
I've never been quite so happy
all I need to do is click on you
and we'll be joined
in the most soul-less way
and we'll never
ever ruin each other's day
cuz when I'm through I just click
and you just go away
I love my computer
you're always in the mood
I get turned on
when I turn on you
I love my computer
you never ask for more
you can be a princess
or you can be my whore
and it's never been quite so easy
I've never been quite so happy
the world outside is so big
but it's safe in my domain
because to you
I'm just a number
and a clever screen name
all I need to do is click on you
and we'll be together for eternity
and no one is ever gonna take my love
from me because I've got security,
her password and a key
The short shall inherit the earth. Just you wait. You won't see us coming. We'll pop out from under tables, beds, and closets in hordes. So you're tall, huh? You won't be so tall when I chew off your ankles. Mofo

God Lives Underwater - From Your Mouth

59 Times the Pain - Calling the Public, Punkrock College

i used to listen to streaming radio Groove Salad, but then RIAA came along and killed them.

a mix of classical and techno usually works. no lyrics mostly.
so anywhere from beethoven to aphex twin. and sometimes the star wars soundtracks

NIN, Kraftwerk, Rage Against the Machine. I find RATM worked really well while doing math homework in high school...seemed to transfer well to coding.

ohh...hard to say, really depends on my mood, but TOOL is always great, and Pink Floyd, anything that has lots of great music and words but is stimulating and doesn't shut your brain down. Techno is good because it is mostly just beats and not words to distract you, and classical.

I absolutely loved that station... I used to sometimes let it play and sleep to it all night... Great lucid dreams!

We were talking about this idea of a compilation at work and was just wondering what you all thought would be good additions... I definitely would put something from the latest Flaming Lips cd as well.. What a great disc and great "music to code to" as well...

"Snake Ranger" - Fila Brazillia
"Du Hast" - Rammstein
Anything from the Orb or Fila Brazillia, Groove Salad played so much Fila... sigh.

Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt

(though it wouldn't be a compilation anymore then... it fills at least a cd by itself)

anything minimal/contemporary

<strong>Kruder and Dorfmeister</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="1" face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif">Seconded. I always, always listened to <a href="http://www.monkeyradio.org" target="_blank">Monkey Radio</a> until the RIAA slapped up internet radio. They played some of the most trippy, relaxing music on there. Great background music (albums) I use when coding (and that I recently bought!):

* Nightmares on Wax's "Smoker's Delight"
* Tosca's "Suzuki"
* Kruder & Dorfmeister's "The K&D Sessions"
* Yo-Yo Ma's "Astor Piazzola's Soul of the Tango"
* Fila Brazilia songs are great, too

Like Demonhood said, classical and no-lyrics...

folk music. it's Meghan Slankard right now, for me, but Indigo Girls, Melissa Etheridge... all depends on the mood. Other days, it's Cake, others it's Metallica or Rage Against the Machine. Either way, it doesn't really matter, it all fades away...

Almost anything by Devo, Kraftwerk, DJ Shadow or the Cocteau Twins. Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon LP. Anything from Soma FM's Groove Salad stream. (Boy, do I miss them. )
