Aside from spending some of my pre-teen years as a walking logo, advertising my brand consciousness of Airwalk, etc, I have a few favorite brands that have persisted over the years. Naomi Kline might disagree with my tastes, but this is how the cookie crumbles
1. Apple
2. Sony
3. Fender
4. Random House/Knopf
5. Island Records
Bonus: Kenner, Chrysler, and the CBC

And Mel is so helpful! She once sent me free buttons that had R's on them just because they found them lying around...

It is just a list. And with a list, you number them so you can see how many you have. You just don't leave lists unnumbered. Like if you have a grocery list, you number them to find out how many items you want to buy (at least that is how I do it) and you don't buy them neccessarily in that order.

If you mean the optical company, the old family firm Leitz doesn't exist any more. Leica cameras are now made by Leica, which is partly owned by Hermes.

Well, it used to be Leitz. But the company was bought out. That's why Leicas are made in Solms now, not Wetzlar.
Minolta never owned Leica. They had a partnership in the 1970s and early 1980s. The Leica CL and R3 were joint products. Minolta made the CLE that was based on the CL and the XD-11 had a lot in common with the R3. The later R cameras up to the R7 had some Minolta parts, but were Leitz/Leica designs. The R8 and R9 are all Leica, as are the M rangefinders.
Minolta also partnered up with some of the earlier zoom lenses for the Leica SLRs. There have been other partners too - Sigma, Kyocera, as well as Angieneux. Schneider also makes one or two lenses for them. All the newer Leica lenses are Leica designs, though.

Are you sure? You aren't just posting your FED copy again are you? If not, have you run the serial number? Here is where you can check, but there is no "IId" model.
In your shoes I'd be a little concerned about that. Not to mention the fact that the image you posted has the URL "ruscameras."

Hahha. Nice eye, nice eye. It's a zorki or a fed, not sure which though. I ran the serial, and it said it was a 1936 Leica. However, it isn't a leica. So. Yeah. Anyway, it actually passes most of the 'telltale' copy signs, so it's a damn good copy. It takes wonderful pictures too.

I knew it was something with Minolta.
anyway, Simey do you have any experience with the new M7 ? I'm VERY interested in going back to rangefinder.

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

No, I haven't handled one yet. I have an M6TTL and an M4-P. The M6 is similar to the M7, but without the auto exposure (but WITH a mechanical shutter, which is important to me). I have heard good things about the M7 though.
A good place to get information is the Leica User's Group, which is a very large international listserve.
Here are the LUG archives.
LUGGERS are a friendly and lively bunch as well, although they don't tolerate quite as much OT banter as the Lounge.
