I just re-installed Q3A on my old 266 iMac and downloaded the latest update to get it to run in OS X. Unfortunately I get an error just as Quake tries to launch that says "Could not initialize OpenGL. There does not appear to be an OpenGL-supported video card in your system." Well, I've run this game many times on this system in the past, even in OS X with an earlier update that I can't find now.

Anyone else seen this error and know how to fix it. It looks to me that with the latest Q3A update they've left out support for older systems.

Make sure you do things in this order:

D/load, unzip, and run/install the patch FIRST before you do anything.

Now, once that's installed, go find the folder and find "baseq3" inside the "Quake 3" folder. Now, insert your Quake III CD, double click it, and look in the baseq3 folder on the CD, and DRAG the "pak0" file INTO the baseq3 file already installed on your hard drive. It's a huge file so it'll take a while to copy over. Now launch Q3 from the icon in the folder on your hard drive.

BTW, make sure you get THIS patch (1.3.2)

There aren't any OpenGL drivers for the Rage Pro video card in your 266 iMac in OS X. No OpenGL based games will run on that machine under OS X, you'll need to use OS 9.
