How to transfer Photo library between Macs?

I got a 2012 15" MBP with thunderbolt ports and a 2016 13" MPB with USB-C ports. I want to transfer my 55 GB Photo library (formerly iPhoto) from the old to new Mac. What is the easiest way to do this? I don't want to use any cloud services and I have no backup drive. I simply want to connect a cable between the two. My 15" has been acting up lately, and maybe a complete reinstall is necessary.

Unfortunately, the wifi in my home is just my iPhone acting as a hotspot. It is fine for normal use as I have (truly) unlimited data (with no throttling), but it won't work for this. Wifi at work is super slow and doesn't work 3/4 of the time. The USB stick with a USB-C adapter would work and is cheaper. Thanks!

For a data transfer between Macs you could set one to create a network and the other to join it. No need to go via the phone but no internet on the Macs until its finished copying.
In theory sat right beside each other wireless n should get you 55GB in 12-16 hours. Once upon a time that would easily beat Amazon with the USB stick. Nowadays it might be an interesting race depending what time you start of course.

Thanks, I went with the USB drive route and will try tomorrow. I do have a backup drive. It is my time capsule. However, as I am overseas now (and frequently so), I do not have access to it.

Bac to my Mac is the difference between me being in the studio or at home when my normie partner has to use software with tons of fiddly bits.
