Bluray on the cheap. Will this work?

I am thinking of combining the newly affordable Bluray drive from Newegg, a USB-SATA adapter and my Macbook as the spotlight of my home theater.
Will it work? I own a 2.0 GHz Core Duo, GMA950, 2GB RAM. I don't mind booting to Windows if it means I won't have to pay a ridiculous price for a PS3, mainly to play Bluray discs.

Sure, works fine. I'd buy an enclosure like this to make it a little cleaner/less clutter... $175 for an external BluRay drive makes them almost reasonable.

If you plan on using it to play Blu-ray movies then NO, i don't think it will work. I previously tried to connect an xbox hd-dvd drive to my macbook and it can certainly read the video files, but graphics card wasn't good enough to play them. This is in bootcamp with anydvd hd and powerdvd.
This was about 2 months ago so things might have changed, but i doubt it.

Do you have a recent Macbook? If a GMA X3100 laptop can't play Bluray movies, I can't even hope for a GMA950 to do it.
The PowerDVD software recommends CD 2.0GHz (check!) and requires GMA965 (missed it by that much!).
However, I can tell they are very conservative. They require 2.4GHz P4 for DVDs. I've been watching DVDs for years on a 300MHz P2.

What software must be used to watch Bluray movies on the Mac?

"GMA965" is GMA X3100.
I don't think there are any licensed BluRay players for OS X. With Apple so far behind adopting HD optical drives and the user base so small, it just doesn't make sense to go through the hassle.

...which is why the OP said he was going to boot into Windows.

Saving ~$260 is worth any amount of hassle.

I wouldn't say Apple is behind adopting, just behind adopting for consumer use. Final Cut Studio 2 supports Blu-Ray.
