Hope this isn't too OT, but was wondering how many of you had a 12" PowerBook before getting your MacBook. I'm getting my MacBook tonight and I'm going to sell my PowerBook on craigslist. Was wondering if you've been satisfied with your MacBook's performance.

Well I had a 12" iBook 800mhz prior to my macbook and im 110% satisfied. 1024x786 is just not enough screen. Since you have a 20" ACD, you'd be good with the macbooks 1280x800 screen. I have a Quad G5 at work and the macbook seems just as fast in most things and I'm sure that it will kick the G4 1.5 processors ass.

Here's another blast from the past - PowerBook 540C (C is for color!) next to my current 12" G4.

My Pismo unfortunately didn't do well after one year. First the CD/DVD player died, than the power management stopped charging batteries. It's been replaced with a 12" G4 with which I'm exteremely happy but kind of worried that there's no small MacBook Pro to look forward to

The MacBook is faster, no doubt. But not a ton. If you put them side by side, you will see a difference, but when I go back to my 12in PB (my wife's now) I realize how fast it really is (has plenty of RAM). This is of course doing things like web surfing, email, etc. Video encoding, is totally different though. My MacBook blows away the PB and I do that enough that it is a welcome increase.

I like the MacBook – the screen is a big plus – but the keyboard (IMHO) is better on the Powerbook and Word starts faster on the PB. I'm not saying the upgrade isn't worth it. I'm just saying that I wasn't blown away.

but which is which??

i had the 2400c, my first mac. loved it. 10.4" screen. no one could believe what it could do, and how small it was.

the 12" pb is my fave, and i also hope (someday) to see an equivalent mpb...

I've got a new setup for my macbook.

I'd love to find some kind of stand to set it up vertically on the right side of the monitor, but I haven't been able to find anything yet.

In the photo: my 2.0 MacBook, Apple Keyboard, Logitech Bluetooth mouse, 120gb backup drive, 350gb media drive, and a 24" Dell Monitor. Not pictured are my studio monitors on the shelf above this setup (m-audio bx8a's).

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I love my 12" powerbook! Yes, it is a shame that there is no 12" MBP but I understand why. It would be too much to have 12", 15" 17 and then the 13" MBs....

actually...why too much? before, we had the 12", 15", 17" powerbooks AND the 12" and 14" iBooks.

i want a 12" mpb; while i wait (and wait), am getting a 20" imac (and will keep my pb for now).

cmon apple!!!

It's an Icybox IB-360U-BL silver, with blue LED external HDD case.

I don't think my photo does it justice really, as it is quite well designed. The front has a holey grille (Batman!), reminiscent of the Power Mac/Mac Pro front grille.

It's made of alumininium, and uses passive cooling, so it can be as quiet as the HDD it houses. And though it can get quite warm, I've never had a problem with the heat.

Here are a couple of links, for more info:

i sold my 12" to finance my mbp...and the other day my cousin bought a 12" 1.5 for the heck of it (he already owns a mb and mbp) and i really felt a warm spot hit me in my chest. the 12" is an amazing piece of machinary and people who say it wasnt a "power"book are lame. i wish i had my first mac (12" 1ghz) back.

I am also using a dell 20" with my macbook. if you can get the 23" acd or 24" dell then do it. you can never have enough screen size. other than that the 20" is pretty good. I've been using a 23" acd at work and now after 4 omnths, its too small.
