I have a 333 MHZ Beige G3 with 256K of RAM. Is there a way to disable the RAM check to shorten the startup time? I read somewhere about holding down control + apple while opening the memory control panel but this doesn't work on my machine. Any help appreciated.

When you have that much ram it does.
Ram check takes 20 or 30 seconds with that much ram.

This reminds me of the old Fram Oil Filter ads.

"Pay me now, or pay me later."

While it's true that RAM doesn't fail often, if it does and you have the memory check turned off, you'll have some fun (and waste a lot of time) figuring it out.

On the other hand, saving 20-30 seconds every reboot could add up to minutes in no time! (Given that I don't really shutdown anymore it would take quite a while for me to save even ten minutes of my fast paced silicon valley life.)

i disabled the ram check for a while, got many hard crashes then. i'm not really sure it was because of the ram check, but when I enabled it again, my system worked fine.

I've kept the check off for years. Never had a problem on any of my current or previous machines. When Word or VPC quit playing nice, and it's time to troubleshoot, those seconds add up fast.

it shouldn't take that long.....i have 704 megs, and i haven't disabled it since my last system install, and my machine boots fairly quickly, certainly doesn't take 20-30 seconds (an eternity in computer speak)

Wetsponge -

Unless you've zapped your PRAM, I think the RAM check is still disabled... since it happens before MacOS takes over the machine, it would have to be a PRAM setting...
