I just pulled up my checking account and saw that George Bush deposited $600 in my account. Now what to spend it on? Suggestions?

Considering it was based on the first set of refunds, that's not all that surprising.
I believe this means Big Mac is recommending 600 cups of coffee.

Done. I'll get started immediately. If after 100 cups you can move outside of time, I can only imagine what the effects will be after 300

Who knows, maybe you'll start moving backward in time. Then, the paradoxes begin.

Nothing too exciting, for me.
The wife and I purchased a new mattress (tempurpedic) with a 12 mos no interest offers. I'll be putting the money I get from the gov't towards that balance.

Yes, but it's going for some landscaping I was going to do anyway. I'm not sure if that counts toward stimulating the economy.

Just so we're clear, it was your $600, he'd already taken it, either that, or it's $600 he borrowed from someone by telling them your kids would pay them back...
There hasn't been much discussion on the types of spending, and the ways in which the economy can be repaired. To me, if the goal is to provide jobs and shore up the tumbling dollar, money needs to be spent in the local economy.

This $600 just feels irresponsible to me, as I don't really need the money and there's no guarantee that I'm going to spend it in any way that helps the economy,

Come to Canada for vacation. Nice golfing in BC and Ontario for example. Good fishing too. And it's often cheaper to go to Toronto for musicals than it is to go to New York.
P.S. Just how much of this $600-per-person-feel-good-plan costing the US of A this year? And how much will it cost to service the additional debt over the years?

Pay off your credit cards or another debt (mortgage?). If you're free of debt, invest them.

If I want to upgrade, I always look at the cost to benefit ratio, basically do I need it or do I just want it for no other reason than to have it? I mean, I replaced my first generation iPod with a nano. There was a couple of generations in between I was keen on getting, but with the help of a new battery that old iPod did it's job just fine. And the nano was a birthday present, so I probably would have still been using that until I bought a touch. It's a result of being raised in a family where success came only from lots hard work and and pinching pennies to provide for the long term.
So, this is purely discretionary money for me. I think I'm exactly who this kind of thing was intended for because I'll use this money to buy something I otherwise wouldn't have bothered with.
I'm thinking maybe a game console. I gave my playstation 2 away a while ago with the intention of getting a newer system but never did. Now I have to decide between an X-Box and a PS3. The rest I'll spend one pint at a time.
And as to a suggestion Eug made further down the page, I have two weekends booked in Canadia in the near future, and I agree with your reasons for doing so.
And who said give it back? That was a good one!
And I give regularly to charity. I'm blowing this money on something for me.

I invest x amount of Euros each month into four different fonds (world, Europe, Asia, resources) and I started putting money into a special retirement fund (I get tax benefits). I wanted to seriously start saving and managing money, so this is what I'm doing now. So far, I haven't touched a cent

Well, the unfortunate part of this is that you are the exception tather than the rule.
OTOH, since so many people are exceptions, they will actually spend the money on stuff, and thus this feel-good-cash-deal may have the desired effect. The question is to what extent.
I'm thinking maybe a game console. I gave my playstation 2 away a while ago with the intention of getting a newer system but never did. Now I have to decide between an X-Box and a PS3. The rest I'll spend one pint at a time.
Xbox 360 - cheaper so you can buy an extra couple of games, but the PS3 gives you Blu-ray.
And as to a suggestion Eug made further down the page, I have two weekends booked in Canadia in the near future, and I agree with your reasons for doing so.
I'm just being selfish... since I live in Canada.
