I voted "yes," but only if the poll has a) a good subject and b) sufficient options. Way too many of our polls wind up turning into arguments about missing or faulty options, or about the wothiness of tthe subject as a poll versus simple discussion.
Trivial polls would tend to trivialize the process - unless the trivial poll was really catchy. There is no formula, just the concept that a poll isn't the first random thought that pops into a poster's mind. Asking people to think about something and participate in a structured discussion like a poll should reflect the author's thought ahead of time...
So funny, silly, banal, whatever the subject, if the subject and poll are well thought out, it should be a successful discussion - and maybe draw some new members to boot. Lame polls expose the less interesting side of a community and can discourage new members.
