My iBook 500 used to have a little rest button close to the audio/video out ports. No such thing on my iBook 700, I just noticed. Just curious - what exactly do new iBook users do when/if their machines ever lock up? Without the button, my only idea would be to unplug AC and remove the battery, wait for it to die, then plug everything back in and turn it on. Seems easier to have a reset button.

Er, I've got an iBook 600, with a reset button, now that you mention it.

Although, when it locks up on me I've been pushing the on button for about 8 seconds to shut it down.

Probably the wrong thing to do, but seems simpler than the battery removal method.

Um... there is a Mac three-finger salute if you didn't notice for the ibook. Just as good as the reset button, CRTL+APPLE+Power Button

That resets it every time for me, while the reset button only manages to shut the thing off.... plus you gotta get a pen or something to hit it...
--whats this button do?

Goodbye koobi
... we had fun, but Apple Repair and the years have not been kind to you... godspeed...

Press the power button whilst holding down "ctrl" + "apple". Resets every lockup I've had (which have happened when I change USB stuff whilst sleeping - but I guess I shouldn't really do this?) .

It's rare but possable I think for the system to freeze up so much to the point of not accepting ANYTHING!

Not remote control, Not Keyboard, NOT ANYTHING.

I saw it happen on an NT laptop once.

And the only way to stop it (well most easy way) is to cut the power.

I am not sure

Glad I don't own an NT laptop.

Thanks for the info about the three-finger salute...amusing and useful.
