I live in Canada and I'm thinking of getting some Skype Credit or a Skype subscription for long distance.

Good for me would be a Canada/US subscription, unlimited for $2.99 a month. Does this mean I can call from anywhere in the world (over WiFi) to Canada and the US with that plan? I'm going to Germany soon, and it'd be nice to make some calls FROM there to Canada.

Or would I better off with just a Skype Credit? That is $14 and allows me to call either Germany or Canada for 2.7¢ per minute, plus the connection fee of a few ¢ per call.

How well does it work these days? Any lag? The demo call feature - Skype test call - seemed to work fine, but there's no interactive component, so I can't really tell if there is any lag.
