Quick-service food chain, Tim Hortons, has announced its launch of a mobile payment service across its locations in Canada and the US. The new barcode technology provides a secure and prompt scan-to-pay option at participating Tim Hortons locations, once a prepaid Tim Card is registered on the company's TimmyMe app. Other features included on the TimmyMe app include a store locator, product nutritional information, and more. TimmyMe is free to download, and is available through iTunes for iOS devices.


Griffin introduces new 'Identity' case for iPhone 5, 5s

Griffin Technology has introduced its line of Identity cases for iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s. A collection of slim two-piece cases, the Identity line is comprised of hundreds of patterns and designs to reflect one's personal taste. Its hybrid bumper combines rubber, for shock absorption, and a hard plastic frame to protect the enclosed phones from drops up to four feet. Raised edges around the screen deter chips and scratches. Some cases in the Identity line feature additional utility functions, such as a mirror or card holder. Pricing ranges from $25 to $35, and can be purchased online. Additional case components for customization start at $10.

Zoom releases new battery-operated Zoom H5 Handy audio recorder

Zoom North America today released its new H5 Handy Recorder, offering four-track audio recording. A shock-mounted X/Y stereo capsule, the device can utilize the same interchangeable capsules as its other device, the H6. X/Y recording allows seers to cover a wide area, and capture sound sources in the centre with clarity and definition, suitable for live stereo recording. The XYH-5 X/Y microphone capsule included with the H5 provides two matched unidirectional condenser microphones set at a 90-degree angle. The newest recorder can capture sound levels up to 140 dB SPL, ideal for live concerts and other loud scenarios.

The H5's auto-record function allows recording to begin automatically when a certain level of sound is detected, and an equivalent Auto-Stop function that ends recording when the sound drop below a designated level. Its Backup-Record function automatically records a duplicate set of stereo tracks with 12dB less input gain, ensuring clear capture. The H5 is capable of a Loop Back function that makes it easy to add narration to music playback, by connecting the device to one's computer or iPad (which requires Apple Camera Connection Kit) via USB. Priced at $270, Zoom's H5 Handy Recorder can be purchased from a variety of online retailers.
