E.T. has been crunching with his 8-way for months now. He's #1 on SETI@Home.

Yep. His RAC at Seti is over 2000 RAC higher than the next nearest machine.

The performance is blazing.

I get 4-5k PPD on my 2.66 dual quad windows machine (running 3 SMP clients), depending on the projects that get downloaded. Since the MacPro dual quad is faster (3.0), I hope to do better. We'll see.

Anyone using smc fan control on there mac pro's? I have used it on a mini and worked great but haven't tried it yet on my macpro. Hey zombie 67, how's the octo running for you?

Running great! Already over 6200 RAC on S@H, and it's only been crunching for 11 days.

Computer summary

It's *so* much more quiet than the G5 Quad, even when running BOINC or Folding. Since it's not OC or a laptop, I have not bothered with smcFanControl.

Did you crank up the rpms to see if its working? Test it to see that it works. You have to hit the apply button for it to take effect though. You should here the fan gradually increasing when you crank it up. If that don't work, reinstall it.
Zombie67, what version of boinc are you using? My pro crashed yesterday using the latest version after one night of crunching. Went to pause it, one core kept crunching then crash.

Zombie67's new machine is really crunching big time! His RAC is "only" 6359 as of today, but he's only been crunching for 10 days. His daily average is 10,092 over the last 10 days! Awesome power!

I think I discovered the problem, I had it installed on another drive. When I put it on the main drive it fired right up and went to my set speeds.
