After using Yahoo Mail IMAP for years on my iPhone, I was excited when I read a Wikipedia article stating that one can use IMAP on Apple Mail for the desktop also. I followed the instructions listed here:

EarlyRed: Yahoo IMAP settings for Mac and Apple Mail that actually work

These are the settings:
Incoming Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL/TLS)
Username: full email address (for example, [email protected] or [email protected])
Password: the password you login to Yahoo! with.

But I'm not able to send out emails. I double checked my Outgoing server and Outgoing Port settings, and am not sure what is wrong. Any advice would be most appreciated!

Thanks,
HL

I assume this is for Yahoo! Pro (or whatever they're calling their pay service). Am I correct?

Port 465 is the standard port for old-school SSL auth, TLS auth uses port 587 or 25 usually, the guide is wrong in saying that port 465 is used for TLS. Apple Mail does not support SSL (even though it erroneously says it does). However, I highly doubt that Yahoo only supports SSL, because the last clients that did not support TLS were Encourage v.X on the Mac and Outlook Express for Windows.

The cliff notes: try port 587 or 25 (I'd try the former first).
