I have Mac OS X.4 on my Powerbook.
Is there an alarm clock function I can set to wake me up?

There are shareware alarm clock apps. Look on Versiontracker.

Energy saver system prefpane -> schedule... at least that's how it is in leopard, but the functionality is there in tiger and I think in the same place. But that assumes that the startup chime will wake you up. I think there are applescripts around the place that you can run at startup to get music playing or similar.
