Sometimes it seems that a band can sing a track better then the song's original singer....list your top 5 FAVORITE Covers (so it doesn't have to be better then the original, we're not deciding BEST EVER...no need to flame people, this is just a personal favorite list)
1 Oasis-I am the walrus (The Beatles)
2 nada Surf-Where is my Mind? (The Pixies)
3 The Smashing Pumpkins -Your all that I got tonight (The Cars)
4 Bush-F*&Kin' Up (neil Young)
5 The Smashing Pumpkins-dancing in the Moonlight (Thin Lizzy)

I like Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" (NIN). But I guess that's a bit too conventional.
Hmm... I'm usually too young to know when a song is a cover. Of course, I really don't listen to much "oldies," so I guess that's to be expected.
Oh, just remembered: I like Cake's cover of "I will survive." I can't think of anything else right now.

I enjoy the 'Boyz in the hood', as done by Dynamite Hack, I also like 'No Quarter' done by Tool, I think it's better.

I'm having trouble thinking of five... but I love Gary Jules' - Mad World (Tears For Fears cover from the end of Donnie Darko movie). It's amazing, it seems to stop peopel in their tracks when they hear it. I think it's in the running for Christms Number One here in the UK! What a happy bunch we are....

They might be Giants covered Istanbul (I think it was by the 4 lads, or something like that), which I think is pretty cool. They also did another older song called "yeah yeah" which I really like too.
Stone Temple Pilots covered David Bowie on Andy Warhol. Another Bowie cover is Nirvana, on the Man Who Sold the World. Thats a pretty good cover, I think.
Cat Stevens covered "Another Saturday Night." I like his version much better.
Oh, I really like Thom Yorke's cover of "Wish You Were Here." Thats a good one.

"Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley of course...
Buckely also did an amazing live cover of Van Morrisons "The Way Young Lovers Do"...unbelievable!
I was always partial to Jane's Addiction's cover of "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Stones.
And half of Taj Mahal's repertoire

Most of Yo La Tengo's covers of obscure bands and songs alike on Fakebook are good.
YLT has a knack for making covers sound better than the original.

Faith No More - "War Pigs" (better than the Sabbath original... in fact, Zack Wilde performed the Faith No More guitar solo when I went to see Ozzy in concert here in Knoxville back in `91 )
Alien Ant Farm - "Smooth Criminal" (it's a guilty pleasure )
Jimi Hendrix - "All Along the Watchtower" (this one's obvious)
Johnny Cash - "Hurt" (guaranteed to produce tears )
Gary Jules - "Mad World" (eerie remake of the Tears For Fears orginal)
Plus 1 more...
Iron Horse - "Enter Sandman" (Bluegrass Metallica!!! OMFG! This is just awesome! The album title is "Fade the Bluegrass". If you're just remotely a Metallica fan, or like good bluegrass, this is a Must Buy!)

...but seriously, chalk me up for Cash's version of 'Hurt'
(which really is a hell of an achievement, because the original Nine Inch Nails version is also a cracker)
Jimi Hendrix - Star Spangled Banner
Whitney Houston - ditto
Nice - America
