I'm on an iBook600 w/ a 12" display, so I need to save space...

I'm personally a big fan of Command H (hide) because it's just simple and fast. I use it with the new tab switcher in Panther when I want to keep my hands on the keyboard, otherwise I use the dock... I even enabled transparency for hidden apps with tinkertool

I tried to use Expos, the dock (MIP, regular minimize too), window managers.... but they seem to be slow and stuff.. anyway I can't integrate them in my way of doing things...

I really like expose, but I almost never use it, simply because my existing habit of COMMAND-H (hide) and COMMAND-TAB (switch) works well. I've no need to use expose, and therefore haven't been able to form a habit to use it.

On the other hand, my wife learned expose first and uses it always, and uses it well.

I'd like to be able to get into the habit of it, then I could make a better decision on what is the best way, but I just can't seem to break the old habits.

I use the Dock, hide and expos - depending on the situation.
Hide for applications that i don't use.
Minimise for windows i don't use in an application that i use.
Expos for windows i use.

I use the Dock to switch applications.

I find Expose indispensable and further, a massive step in user interaction. In fact- Expose was one of many draw points for adopting Apple hardware / software as my main platform. A good mate of mine who is PC enthusiast, recently bought WinExpose for the sole reason of witnessing (the real) Expose on my G5

For me personaly, Expose is groundbreaking innovation!

A heady mixture of Expose', Cmd-Tab, dock-clicking and minimize on my iBook, although at home I use my dual display to avoid minimizing, largely.

i find myself using cmmd-H all the time...plus i use dockblock to disable the dock (so i can use my powerbook fullscreen).

i like the idea of expos but really never use it...

cmd-h is an old habit, but i'm using expose more and more.

expose is especially great, i think, because it lets me work with my app windows filling the whole screen.

i also like how i can switch between apps by hitting my fn key (now for for 'app expose') and tabbing to switch apps. and it's great to get to the desktop with a quick f11.

- Stuff I'm not using: Hide (cmd-h)

- Stuff I'm using: Expose.

- Switching apps: Mostly dock, sometimes cmd-tab.

- Dock: Right side, bottom corner. Makes the trash stay in the corner and that way the dock takes away horizontal screen space instead of sparse vertical space. In the Dock I have a folder with aliases of all mounted file systems and servers so that I can navigate through eveything (or mount stuff) with a right-click of my mouse at any time.

Virtual Desktop system.

Desktop 1: e-mail, IM
Desktop 2: web (usually safari)
Desktop 3: terminal, finder, misc
Desktop 4: dreamweaver, safari

Expos is cool, I like it but haven't found the need to use it since all my stuff is spread out over 4 'monitors'.

Edit: oh yeah, when there are several windows open on a desktop I'll use cmd-tab to switch between them. Panther's visual cmd-tab feature is NICE! <whisper>i find it more useful than expos!</whisper>

minimize in place is something that, if i am not mistaken, was in some of the previous betas of macOS 10.something, but was taken out. instead of minimizing to the right hand side of the dock, windows minimize straight to a small thumbnail on the desktop. it looks neat. personally, i do not like it.

---

to answer the poll.

i use expose almost all the time. a little cmd+h for stuff i need to run, but don't need to see. but mostly expose. i have it set up for screen corners.

top right, desktop
bottom right, all windows
bottom left, app windows

That explains why I could not implement it....
