Do you have the All-in-one model? If so, you don't meet the requirements but there is a program in the works, alpha stages now, to allow older macs to have panther installed on that hardware.
Edit: actually I don't think any beige G3 supports panther. I don't believe any of them can with built-in USB

That is correct, Panther will not install on a beige desktop G3. You can, however, try to get it to run using XPostFacto, but that feature of the lastest version is still being improved and can be a bit tricky.

Many people myself included have had Panther running on our Beige G3 for quite a while. Only problem I had was the internal(stock) CD couldn't boot the Panther CD. My external Yamaha scsi burner did though and thats how I got it installed.
