Well, the title sums it out, is there a way to change the finder icon in the dock without the use of candybar. I tried changing the finder.icn file, located within the pkg contents of the finder app, with the .icn file of the icon I wanted to use and then I changed the icon of the finder app via "get info", but doing both of those steps didn't change the icon. I also tried changing the finder.png file located in the dock pkg contents but still had no luck. So what step am I forgetting?

Yes, I logged out and I killed the finder process in terminal so that it would relaunch.

Try deleting "com.apple.dock.iconcache.501" in the "root"/Library/Caches/ folder - just back it up to the desktop. Deleting it will sort of cold start your Dock. Logout and in again to notice the difference. Or maybe just restart the Finder and Dock. ShapeShifter will do this if you have it installed.

np. Glad to help. I remember doing that when Skin-A-Dock went haywire in Panther once and I could not get my original Dock look back.
