I have been told that some very useful things can be done through the CoreServices folder, as well as one or two other folders I have failed to find.

Yes, I know it is extremely dangerous to mess around in there, and believe me, I don't plan on doing ANYTHING unless I KNOW it's going to work the first time.

Unfortunately, I am unable to find it in Finder. I've checked every preference known to man (or me, at any rate), and nada.

How can I find these hidden files and folders?

CoreServices are located in : "your HD directory"/system/library/CoreServices

"your HD directory" is your hard drive and make sure that you select the OS X system folder and not the OS 9 system folder. Good luck with whatever you are doing are remember to make back-ups of whatever files that you replace.
20", 2gigs ram, 500gig HD, 2.16ghz core 2 duo iMac
iBook 700 Combo/14.1
OS X

Thanks.

And now........ to proceed with extreme caution.

If you don't here from me in a few days, please send out the rescue teams!

One of the things I'm hoping to do is change the icons for the system functions. VERY carefully!

Oh, bloody hell!

Can you say "CandyBar"?

What was I thinking?

Thank God I didn't try anything before discovering THAT little gem!

i've actually deleted stuff from coreservices...
i no longer have the bar to show where my brightness is, where the volume is (so, yeah, i'm using my eyes and ears to determine settings)

but most important: no more "disconnected" notices about my bluetooth mouse every time wake my pb from sleep!

but, yes, as far as icons go, candybar is the thing!
