It is nowhere.

Probably waiting for traffic to die down a little. There's iTunes 6.0.2 and QT 7.0.4 to play with in the mean time.

Are these the elusive ".Mac exclusive widgets" that were highly promised and never delivered? They better be damn good.

There are no exclusive .mac widgets in this update. What would they do anyway? And what would stop non-.mac users from using them?

The Google-Widget will be a great time-saver. Instead of laboriously typing my search queries into the Google search field of Safari or dragging search text onto the Safari icon in the Dock, I can now simply type it into the Google-Widget and - boom - the search results directly appear in Safari.

What do you think about the new widgets in 10.4.4?

The 120MB one on Apple's site is the Combo Updater.

Installed the update from SWU, about to restart.

What do you think about the new widgets in 10.4.4?
Well not useful to the point of it having to be advertised as a feature, I can see moments when it's useful. I often have my PowerBook next to me while doing other thinks and want to do a quick google search. F12, type and I have results.

ESPN widget is nice but I hate having to pick only one sport at a time? Eh.

So can the Calendar widget do anything new? I quite honestly just got it and haven't played around with it yet.

So far so good with the update.

The Google widget isn't too useful, since the toolbar in Safari is accessed with the same number of clicks. However, I'm sure Apple got some advertising money from Google for doing so, so it makes sense.

The People (White Pages) widget is long overdue. I wonder what geniuses didn't realize that this was needed back in 10.4.0 in order to replace the functionality of the long-dead Sherlock Phone Book.

The Address Book widget is a huge improvement over the old one. At least now the damn thing isn't perpetually displaying the last person you looked up (or the one with the first given name alphabetically if you haven't looked one up yet) even if the time you looked that person up was last week! Sheesh. Also, the thing is much more compact than it used to be when not being used. My only complaint is that the button to open the contact's Address Book card in the Address Book app (so you could edit it if you so desired) seems to be missing in this version.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Well I've happily disabled all of the new widgets. They're all pretty much US-oriented, although the ski resort one did find Whakapapa here in New Zealand ... but of course it's summer so that's closed .

The new calendar widget allows people to be far more blind and still see what the date is - interesting. The iTunes widget still crashes reliably for me, even though I've sent the crash report in to Apple at every iteration of Tiger hmm.

Haven't noticed anything else new yet - how disappointing.

I guess you can open multiple ESPN widgets for different sports.

Most of the new widgets are of no interest for non-American users. All we got was Google.

Has anyone else noticed that Safari either removed or had broken it's scroll-wheel functionality for overflow:auto divs?

I REALLY hope that's a temporary thing. I hated it when that didn't used to work right, and I was very happy to see them include it some 3-4 versions ago. Now, it's gone again.

Anywho - just wanted to see if I'm the only person experiencing this.

Hmmm...

Seems more responsive all around.

• As usual, PithHelmet is broken under Safari 417.8. Open the info.plist files in /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/PithHelmet.bundle packages and change MaxBundleVersion to Safari's current version.

• You'll have to reapply themes as a few things were changed.

• Nice to see Apple stepping on the toes of some widget developers again.

• Mail.app STILL does not auto-hide on login when you tell it to.

• FTFF! (Like they ever will in Tiger)

Unfortunately, Spotlight still doesn't look in certain folders (an example being System->Library->Printers). I was hoping this would change, but it's obviously done intentionally on Apple's part. I disagree with the decision to eliminate some files from Spotlight's reach because of Spotlight can't find something, what will?

For those who care, the iBook screen-spanning hack thankfully seems to be working fine under 10.4.4 (for me, anyway--12" iBook, 1.33 Ghz).

Eject button works fine. Seems the MX1000 buttons are almost sorted with this, side scroll use to fire up the spotlight menu in .4.3 and now does the proper function. Sadly the down scroll button still launches Alt - Tab switcher.

Nice Calendar, shame about the ESPN widget such limited sports selection. Was hoping Supercross & Motocross would be listed

can anyone confirm for me whether support for deep sleep and PCI USB 2.0 cards has got any better? Seems that the state of play up until now has been that Macs wont wake from sleep if they have a PCI USB 2.0 card and there is something plugged into the card that is drawing power, like an iPod, that was certainly my experience with a Belkin card under 10.4.3 so I took it back.

Many thanks

After the update, my electric sheep screen-saver dropped from fluid motion to around 5 fps. Also, moving the safari window and minimizing to dock is very choppy.

This is a Dual 2 (2nd Gen), FX5200. Possibly an issue with the new nVidia Drivers maybe?

Anyone else see this?
