That's a nice little story, but I'm sure it has more to do with the final terms of that lawsuit than their supposed opinion of a guy who made them money hand over fist on that other trilogy.

Which is why they're still going out of business?

You really think the TLOR Trilogy put them out business?

Lord of the Rings underdelivered? OK first of all New Line is a subsidiary of Warner, not MGM and is in fact in no way related to MGM.

So if Lord of the Rings did good, bad or just average it has no bearing on MGM.

I guess they got the rights for the Hobbit, but as an investment or production company MGM has no connection to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Whatsoever.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

That's my intent. While I must admit that the above pic would not communicate such a thought as clearly as I would like, the opportunity to post such an iconic pic which connects so well to the subject of that post proved too difficult to pass up.

Well, Toro is out, Peter Jackson is back.

Start if production is planned for early 2011.
2 parts, filmed in 3D.

Del Toro is doing At the Mountain of Madness, which I think is a much better choice.

Because I like del Toro's direction and not Jackson's. If del Toro had directed LotR it would have been breathtaking, like Pan's Labyrinth with 10x more budget. That was my hope for The Hobbit.

3D? God-dammit!

3D is uncomfortable and adds nothing to the movie experience, I am so sick of this 3D gimmick.

3D is here to stay. :/

Glad to hear the movies are finally moving into production, though.

The only "modern" 3D movie I've seen yet was "UP!" and while it didn't take much time to get used to it, the process wasn't exactly convenient. I haven't seen a live-action film that offered 3D yet, and I haven't seen a title that made me want to go out of the way to see it in 3D either.

Movies with flying really benefit from 3D. How to Train your Dragon, and Guardians of Gahoole both had stunning sequences that 3D really made even better.

I ware glasses, so I hate 3D. I don't know if it's how my lenses are made or what, but when I use the 3D LCD glasses, all that happens is that it's not very 3D, the screen just flickers, and I get a monster of a headache by the time the film ended.

Yes, but I'm still young, hip, and completely devoid of discernible taste. I'm supposed to be drawn to this gimmicky bullshit like a dog's nose to an ass. You're supposed grouse and complain that the only movie worth making in 3D is Patton.

Jackass 3D was the first 3D movie I've seen that made good use of the tech.

The 3D was awesome because they were shameless about it... launching dildos at the screen and what-not. That's how to do it.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Patton would have been great in 3D, but I'd have preferred to see 2001: A Space Odyssey in 3D a lot more.
