Folks,

I've discovered a problem with the Mac OS 9.1 DHCP client: it doesn't
seem to work with an NT 4.0 Server system acting as the DHCP server.
I noticed this issue while installing a new G4 533DP system at a client
site; several other older G4s running both Mac OS 8.6 and 9.04 work
without issue with the NT DHCP server (otherwise the server is a
piece of garbage, but that's another post for another time). The system
works fine when assigned a static IP address, but that's not the client's
desired final configuration.

I've seen a few other brief problem posts on this issue in various forums,
but it seems like more people should be running into this issue. Perhaps
Mac OS 9.1 works with some, but not all, DHCP servers?

Cheers,

-Nathan

Yep, I don't know to much about networks, but aren't we cable users all DHCP clients from our providers servers?
And that works fine under OS9.1.

Further testing reveals the MacOS 9.1 system works fine as a DHCP client
to both an AirPort Base Station and a local DSL ISP. As much as I enjoy
bashing NT, I'm surprised such a basic and important service such as
DHCP isn't working well with this new MacOS release. I wonder which
side is out of spec?
