just helped a friend with his iMac dv; we re-initialled the hard drive, installed 9.0.4, and upgraded to 9.1.
he installed photoshop 6.0 from his cd (but not imageready).
he says the "liquefy" filter is no longer there...
where do we find that? (or should it be there by default?)
thanks!

Try check in this:
Filter>Distort>Liquify
I haven't used PS 6 for so long time so I may have forgotten.

Check the plugins folder to see if it is there and if it is try to reload the plgins folder.
Preferences/plugins and scratch discs/choose plugins folder...
If it is not there i think you might need to reinstall as this is an integrated part of the PS installer?!

It's default location is filter/liquify. As noted I would check to see if it's installed as ImageReady also uses it. Applications/Photoshop/Plug-ins/Filters/Liquify.
If it's not there then you need to re-install and do a full install. If they don't want imageready, just delete the app after it's installed.

The Liquify and Extract Filters are in the Edit (or Image...its been a while. I forget for sure) menu for some reason in 6. they moved them to the filters menu in 7. An obviusly good move.
Edit: Just checked...it's in the Image menu in 6
