I'll help out a little Junior Member.
How to change an icon in 10 easy steps:
1. Highlight the icon you want to use. (click on it once)
2. Hit Command-I (for "get info")
3. click once on the icon in the top left corner of the "get info" window
4. Hit Command-C (for "copy")
5. close the "get info" window
6. highlight the icon you want to be changed
7. Get Info
8. Click on the icon in the top left corner of the "get info" window
9. Hit Command-V (for "Paste")
10. close the box and your icon is now changed.

Wow, there's some heavy mac hacking and modding going on in these forums as of late...
Seriously, shouldn't this go in the Mac OS forum or something?

Ok. You really are a "Junior Member" aren't you?
That is only my crafty signature.
Gil Amelio is any Mac user's least-liked person, next to Bill Gates. He was the CEO of Apple when their stock plunged. The date on my signature is that date that Mr. Amelio left Apple. A holiday for any true Mac fan.

You can't change system icons like the trash and the hard drive icon in OS X unless you do some type of magical rain dance which involves the use of magic rain dance inducing editing programs that I have no idea how to use.

It involves ResEdit. I can tell you but I wouldn't recommend you do it... unless you're confident that you can use ResEdit.

ResEdit, SchmesEdit... get IControl.
The Iconfactory is the best icon site ever for the Mac, and the Iconfactory's shareware icon tools are the best available. As far as I know, IconBuilder Pro is the only tool that can create system 8 icons with 8-bit masks. Wish it were a bit easier to use, though...
