This film is fun as hell. I can't give you a review like The Hunger Games because the more I tell you, the more I spoil it. It's almost impossible to talk about this film without ruining it.
But the film does something I've never seen before, which I'm afraid to mention but I will anyway: switch a horror scene into a comedy scene, over and over again, and it's awesome every single time it happens. This film is a shameless crowd-pleaser.
Some really, really screwed up things happen in this film. I found myself constantly wondering: they spent actual money on that effect? Good for them.
You don't have to like Whedon to like this film, but just to warn you: the film begins with an obvious Scooby-Doo replacement cast, right down to the brownish guy in place of Scooby. Then they get into the Mystery Machine and drive off into the Hellmouth. I'm not making that up.
Go see The Cabin in the Woods. It's fun as hell. (/snerk)

Until reading your "review" I wouldn't have even thought twice about seeing this movie. You make it sound interesting enough to get me to reconsider.
Does anyone else have anything positive/negative to say about it?

I found it to be the worst movie ever made (on some levels) and the most brilliant movie ever made on other levels. But it was fun and disappointing at the same time. Def recommend to see. Its not like anything out there, its refreshing in style.

Sounds like Dale and Tucker vs Evil I found on Netflix. I watched that one expecting some teen slasher, within 25 minutes I was in tears cracking up. I texted about 3 people during it, to check it out, I totally wasn't expecting that one.

Just seen it. Go see. It's a real switchback ride in both plot and execution. When we spilled out the whole audience was just trying to make sense of what they had just seen.
It sort of runs out of steam in the last 15 minutes but up to then it's a complete riot.
There's also a completely throw away Japanese film just begging to be made buried inside it.

I saw it at the theatre. There were maybe 10 people in the whole place, but every one of us was laughing our asses off. One of the funniest movies I've seen in a long, long time.
I've got it! It's a suicide pact! That's why all these kids are killing themselves on our property!
