How does the iPhone 3G tackle the challenges? 3G = faster data downloads, perfect for Safari and Mail. Comparing download speeds between 3G and EDGE. 3G finished in 21 seconds. EDGE finished in 59 seconds.

3G of course
Thinner
Black plastic back
All metal buttons
Same display
Camera
Flush headphone jack
Much improved audio
GPS

300 hours standby
10 hours 2G talktime
5 hours 3G talktime

Has GPS too.
But only 5 hours talk-time on 3G, yikes.

$199 for 8 GB 3G.
$299 for 16 GB 3G <-- Also available in white, which is probably what I'll get.

It seems the investors (sorta) like the news. Before the 3G iPhone was announced, AAPL was well under $180. Now it is back up well over $183. However, it's still down for the day, at $183.42 (-2.22).

The first iPhone said the same thing. The question will be whether I can just walk into an Apple store and buy one like the original iPhone, or if I'll have to sign up for the account BEFORE I buy.

Max price for the phone will be $199 anywhere, so that's only £101 - even without a subsidy I'm on that so fast!!!!

No mention of it yet on Rogers' or Fido's website. I wonder when we'll get them here in Canada. Part of June is blacked out for holidays so soon I guess.

I'd be surprised if it were USD$199 in all of Europe.

Also, I suspect that will mean a contract.

I wonder if that $199 is with a new contract or not. If not I'm buying one on the first day to upgrade my current iPhone. If so I'll wait and see what the "upgrade" price is.

Buying two. one for me, one for the wife.

$199 is INSANE.

Will be getting the $299 one though. My wife can decide if she needs the extra 8 gigs or not. She probably doesn't care.

Is this seriously going to be in store only? I hate going to Apple Stores and dealing with the crowds.

It seems that the GPS functionality is very barebones. Does it even do anything more then the current map app? (aside from being more accurate?)

I guess we have to wait for a fully featured GPS app.

How do you mean, bare bones? If shows you where you are, it provides directions, it provides live traffic updates, it provides location specific information. Sounds pretty cool to me.

I wonder if Apple will reduce the price of the Itouch to match the corresponding Iphone models?

Weren't the buttons always metal anyway?

I don't get 3G talk and 2G talk times though. If 3G is on and you aren't using any data why would the talk time be 3 hours less?

I was wondering the same thing, until I saw that a "new 2-year AT&T contract" was required with the new iPhone. Makes you wonder if you will be able to purchase it as a stand-alone product. If not, that's quite unfortunate.

Wow, what a price. The iTouch is gonna have to come down in price. I expect the new iPhone is so cheap because Apple expects to make a killing with the AppStore.

White? Looks retarded with the black face.

An iPhone + mobileme looks awesome, but what happens to the movie area of dotMac? Is it still available?

Pangaea is in the right place. I'd love to see Nanosaur2 on iPhone. Both games shown will sell like crazy.

I expect ioQuake3 will be available for free on July 11.

Has there been any talk about how big (filesize) the apps are going to be?

If I have two iPhones synced to the same iTunes, will I be able to put Apps on both phones and only pay for them once?

Does it talk to you and tell you where to turn? It didn't seem that way to me, and that's the most important feature of any GPS device.

It's still great as is, but it would be even more greater if it acted like a full featured GPS device.

The copy/paste thing was something I was wondering about too. How do they expect this to be a business phone if you can't copy/paste text?

Other than that I'm really liking the 3G.

But waiting another month until the App Store opens is going to be rough.

What leads me to believe that you can just buy 'em for $199 is that they don't put an asterisk or a note on the price itself. Every other cell phone does that...

Two questions:

* Where can I go to watch the keynote? It still doesn't seem to be up on Apple's site. Is it going to be put up there at some point? (Yeah, I read some of the blogs, but I'm trying to stay as spoiler free as possible until I see the keynote.)

* What the heck am I supposed to do between now and July 11th?!?

Why couldn't they make one at least 30gb? I'd like to replace my phone and iPod. My 30gb iPod is almost full. Guess I'll have to wait or suck it up and manage my music, photos, videos better, and apps too.

No one will buy an iPhone AND a touch anyway, holding back the storage space seems petty. I'll be getting the white model as well. Much nicer than black.

Have you considered that Apple doesn't have to add these features. All they have to do it provide the platform and developers will write for it. As someone else already said. Tom Tom will take care of you.
